Vision

To make the library and reading a regular part of daily academic life for students and faculty, and to position the library as a comprehensive resource for developing knowledge, skills, and intellectual curiosity.

Goals

  • Encourage regular reading habits among students and faculty through interactive engagement
  • Organise activities that strengthen reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Curate and maintain a high-quality collection of books in architecture and allied disciplines
  • Activate and strengthen the Book Club through meaningful activities and initiatives
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and fulfil SPPU and COA norms
  • Streamline library processes to effectively support academic and institutional objectives
  • Create an inclusive, welcoming library environment for all members of the institute

About the Library

The Library of SMEF’s Brick School of Architecture provides a vibrant and supportive learning environment that fosters academic excellence, research, and creative exploration. Designed to encourage independent inquiry, the library offers open access to books and journals, allowing students to freely browse and engage with resources that enhance architectural understanding and overall intellectual growth.

Library Collection

The library houses a rich and diverse collection that supports the multidisciplinary nature of architectural education

In addition to the physical collection, students have access to the K-Hub Architectural E-Library, which enables remote access to specialised digital resources anytime and anywhere.
The library has also established aNational Digital Library (NDL) Club, offering access to more than 2,800 digital resources across a wide range of subjects.

To ensure efficient access and smooth operations, the library offers the following modern services and facilities:

Computerised Library Services

The library is fully automated using Koha Library Management Software, enabling systematic tracking of issued, returned, and available books.

OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)

A user-friendly online search interface allows students to easily locate books, journals, and other library resources.

Dedicated Computer Access

A computer with internet connectivity is available within the library for academic browsing and research purposes.

Barcode-Based Circulation

Book issue and return processes are fast, accurate, and technology-enabled through barcode-based circulation.

Activities

  1. Taking Library To Classrooms

Institute library has taken a small step for students which is called “Taking library to Classrooms”. Under this initiative committee have fixed magazine/Book stands in studios/classrooms for keeping old issues of magazines so that student’s can browse through them in their free time. This will inculcate the habit of reading books in students.

2. Library Event: Chai With An Author

Every year an event is organized by Institute library under which the committee invites an author from different fields of expertise for a free dialogue with the students over tea. This event is organized to get students interested in reading books pertaining to allied fields and Interdisciplinary

3. Chai And Breakfast With Your Librarian:

Under this activity BSOA library arrange a visit to local book suppliers shop. Interested faculty members could join librarian for selection of books for library along with CHAI and BREAKFAST.

Library Working Hours:

  • Mondays to Fridays: 8:00am to 5.30pm
  • Saturdays: 9.30am to 1.30pm.
  • Sundays and Public Holidays: Closed.
